Toilet Training – Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppies Are One of the Easiest Dogs to Train
By Den Oyston
Toilet training your Staffordshire bull terrier puppies will actually be much simpler than you think. This article explores some simple dos and don’ts that will help smooth the process.
Staffys as they are affectionately known are a very popular dog especially in the UK where the breed developed and got its name from. The great thing about Staffordshire bull terriers in general is that they are very intelligent dogs who love to please their owners.
This makes training so much easier than with a dog that is his own boss. First steps for any new Staffy pup owner is to make sure you have the toilet training “set up” exactly right. Your Staffy puppy will need to go at very regular intervals and you need to be aware of this. After sleeping, feeding and play make sure that you take your Staffy puppy outside or to the paper or pads you are using.
As you might imagine considering the size they are small dogs with not a huge bladder. So they will need to go. often within 10-15 minutes of any of the above activities.
Make sure that when you take them outside that you praise them well when they do exactly what you want where you want them to. They then associate this with the correct behaviour they need to display to please you their owner and pack leader.
The good thing with Staffys is they are very quick to learn in letting you know what they want to do. Often wondering towards the back door or to the paper within a week or so of consistent basic training like this.
Be patient and kind with them and give clear instructions on what you expect and when. You will then have delightful and happy Staffordshire bull terrier puppies.
