I have had my staffy since he was about 18 months old and he has never been aggresive, now he is 4 and a half and the other week somebody started a fight with me in my house and i faught back, but my beloved staffy tore my legs to bits while i was fighting and i had to spend 4 days in hospital because of it. as a result now he has gone to be a guard dog at a scrap yard because i have not the heart to put him down, but i wanted to know if this has happened to any one else, or if anyone knows why he did it??????

This is a sad story and a hard one to answer.First of all it is not just Staffys that this can happen with all Dogs have the potential for this to happen. Some more than others.
Your staffy will have been very confused. With two people fightinging in his own “den” his emotional level will have risen and literally boiled over.
They are very sensitive dogs and pick up energy changes quickly. The trick is to keep them calm at all costs.
If something like this had happened before he will have remembered it. Perhaps even before you got him Chief as he was over 18 months old.
