A friend of mine in the states sent me this. I always rib him about the wacky inventions that people have in the US.

He gloated in telling me about this one sold on a UK site. I have to ask has anyone ever bought something like this for their Staffy?

Flo gets dirty paws. We just use a sponge and some warm water in a bucket. If we are are in the car just an old towel and a quick wipe?? what about you guys.

I know we are all crazy about our dogs…Staffy’s especially?? ……….. would you use this??

Staffy Pups – Tips on Training Your Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppy

Staffordshire bull terrier puppies are one of the UKs most popular dog breeds. It is easy to see why when you spend any time around this friendly breed.

Staffordshire bull terriers are very intelligent dogs and as a result respond really well to training and encouragement. Some Staffys have even performed well in obedience trails at Crufts one of the largest dog shows in the United Kingdom.

Staffordshire bull terrier puppies are renowned for being very people friendly. This works very much to the owners’ advantage as a young Staffy likes nothing more than pleasing their owners.

Similar to other breeds and dog training basics; Dog training should happen consistently and as soon as your Staffordshire bull terrier puppy arrives home.

Basic commands are all you need to start with. Such as sit and stay. This will help you maintain discipline and importantly keep your Staffy safe. Use food and praise as rewards for the achievements your puppy makes. Don’t make the training sessions long. Just ten to fifteen minutes is fine. This stops your puppy getting bored and maintains their level of enthusiasm.

Remember that your Staffy pup does not speak in human words or languages! Though over time they will get to understand certain words, they actually respond best to physicals signs and tone.

So for instance using a hand signal at the same time as using the word sit helps your puppy interpret what they are meant to do. When your puppy get it right make sure you praise or reward them, they them make the connection about the behaviour you expect of them.

Make sure you do some training with them every day. Consistency is the key. By scheduling in regular small sessions you will be amazed at how quick your Staffy pup will master the basics.

The 2 Most Common Mistakes Puppy owners Make When Choosing a Puppy

The 2 Most Common Mistakes Puppy owners Make When Choosing a Puppy

Choosing a Puppy should be a wonderful experience however many new puppy owners make mistakes. This article explains the 2 most common mistakes that new puppy owners make.

Getting a dog in the first place.

Dogs are one of the most popular pets with some countries having as many as every one in four families owning a dog. Yet they take work and money if you are going to be a responsible dog owner.
Like many things in life you must think through the consequences of your actions especially when it comes to owning a dog. Let us think of some common questions to ask yourself.
How much time do you have? Who will look after him or her? What about the amount of exercise they might need and how often? How much will it cost us each month?
All these are key questions that need to be addressed before you even decide on the breed.

Deciding on the wrong breed

There are hundreds of different dog breeds out there to choose from. Staffordshire bull terrier puppies are just one such breed. In fact though this might sound strange dogs from different breeds may have some similarities and yet in other areas can be very different. Many new owners do not take this into consideration before they choose their first puppy. For instance how big will your dog grow? Do you want an affectionate dog? Or a dog for security purposes? How much time do you have to spend with them? All these are key questions to ask before the decision is made on the breed you want.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppies: Why The Might Just Be The Dog For You

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppies: Why The Might Just Be The Dog For You

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppies are wonderful animals, yet they are much maligned in different parts of the world.
One of the reasons for this is that many people are not aware of the ancestry of these dogs. Also how over the years unscrupulous owners and breeders have abused their good nature.
The Staffy as it is affectionately known is very much a people person animal. Never being happier than when they are surrounded by humans lavishing affection on them. They enjoy lots of human contact and become very attached to their owners.

Though they are a medium sized dog, with basic training they can be handled by most people. Don’t let their strength and broad shoulders put you off. They are shorthaired and moulting does happen though it is not as much as with other dogs. The short coat has a couple of disadvantages in that the Staffy does not fare well in extreme cold or extreme heat.

They do not need to be pampered and bathed that often either. Of course you can give them a bath and yet the fur is such that a good rub down can suffice.

Like all dogs you need to make sure they keep their teeth clean and there are many products on the market to help this.
Finally, like all dogs Staffordshire bull terrier puppies need exercise. This can be built up gradually over the first few months. The average Staffordshire bull terrier when fully grown will need a minimum of 45 minutes a day. Though they will always like more.

Staffy Pups: How To Become Pack Leader

Family of Staffordshire bullterriers

Family of Staffordshire bullterriers

Finding out how to be the pack leader of your dog will be one of the best things you ever do when training your dog.

It takes a certain amount of time for Staffordshire bullterrier puppies to adjust to his/her new environment. This adjustment period is an important time for you to establish your role as the pack leader to your Staffy pup.

It is during this time that the dog should learn to accept your leadership and follow your command because if not, it could be quite troublesome for you to have a disobedient and uncontrollable dog, in the future.

Unlike most breeds, Staffordshire bull terriers are relatively easier to train .Though sometimes they really have a streak of stubbornness, so you need to be firm in handling them. Here’s how to become a pack leader to your Staffy pup.

During playtime, win the majority of games. Though not all. That way your dog will still have interest. Imagine if they never win why continue the game?

Just like in any pack of animals, the strongest one is their leader. Therefore, when you play games with your dog it is critical that you win most of the time in order for your dog to see you as someone strong and in return, they will respect and obey you.

Make sure that the toys you play with are special ones and are brought out and put away during play time. That way there is no confusion.

Establish you rules and be certain that he follows it. You need to reinforce these rules by giving him an award every time he heeds your rules. Being consistent is also vital, if you do not reinforce your rules all the time, your dog will become confused and he will not follow you anymore. Give rewards consistently and this will make him think that he is doing the right thing. If he disobeys, do not shout just briefly reprimand him.

Never allow your dog to sleep at your bed or worse, sleep with you. This will reinforce the idea that you are the leader and you will not let you subordinate share your spot.

Also, feed him after you have eaten because in the wild, the dominant animals or the leaders always eat first. You should also apply the same thing at your house. By doing so, you will also establish your position as the pack leader.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppy Playing in The Snow

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Puppy Playing in The Snow

For many people in the UK snow has come in abundance! we are no exception. There is an upside to most things. Flo seems to be enjoying herself with the first real experience of snow.

It is a great reminder that our Staffys need contact with us and to be played with. With the holidays fast approaching hopefully we will all have more time to spend with them.

Play is a big part of a young dogs life and helps to stimulate them and prevent them becoming boared and destructive.

As you can see Flo had a great time. Though this is exercise you still need to exercise your Staffy on a regular basis. Make sure you build this in during the Christmas festivities.

3 Big Mistakes Staffy Owners Make When it Comes to Dog Training!

This is a recent article I found that I thought you might find interesting about dog training. Puppys do need training I agree though you will get better results after sixmonths of age especially with more complicated tasks.

Hope you enjoy it.

3 Big Mistakes Staffy Owners Make When it Comes to Dog Training!

Staffordshire bull terrier Puppies are cute, but unless they are trained well, they can grow up to be a problem.

Responsible Staffy dog owners need to invest time in training their pup. Oftentimes most people make the same mistakes when training, especially with their first dog. Below you will see the top 3 most common mistakes that uninitiated dog owners make when training their new puppy.

1. You do not have to assert your Alpha role by always “punishing” your Staffy when you call him or her.

I refer here to doing something to him that he does not enjoy doing. For example, it is not a good idea to call your dog, and then clip his nails. Another unpleasant thing for the dog is to have his lead strapped to a post. When you call your dog, let him associate this with something pleasant. Use a cheerful voice, pet him, and tell him what a good dog he is. Let him associate good things with your call, and he will come to you every time. He will also be trusting of you during unpleasant tasks like having his nails clipped.

2. Be Consistent Dogs don’t grow out of bad behaviour

Do not presume that Staffordshire bull terrier puppy will eventually grow out of bad behavior; it is simply not going to happen. You are the Alpha, and you must assert that. A dog wants to be trained, and he wants to live comfortably in your home. This is best possible when he knows the house rules. So from the start, take time to teach your dog what is, and is not acceptable behaviour at home.

3. Do not hit your dog

Do not hit your staffy as a method of training. This will only make your dog aggressive, or at the very least, a submissive wetter. Instead, focus on reinforcing good behavior with rewards.

Puppies are cute, but unless they are trained well, they can grow up to be very disagreeable. Responsible dog owners need to invest time in training their pup. Oftentimes most people make the same mistakes when training, especially with their first dog. Below you will see the top 3 most common mistakes that uninitiated dog owners make when training their new puppy.

Your puppy wants to please you in anyway that they can, but what you must not forget is that they are very young and that get bored very quickly. When you are training your Staffy puppy just ensure that you do it in small stints as this will ensure that both you and your puppy get the maximum benefit out of the training.

Good Christmas Presents For StaffordShire Bull Terrier Puppies

Good Christmas Presents For StaffordShire Bull Terrier Puppies

Sorry I could not find a Staffy doing the same as this dog though I thought it was cute all the same!
Thinking about a present for your Staffy pup is probably not that hard. With dogs being such big business and the fact that you can shop on line to your hearts content there are many options available. With plenty of cheap christmas presents for dogs around.

A good selection including new playthings, leads, collars, something edible, all go down well with your Staffy. If family and friends ask for ideas give them a list.

Staffy puppies are more like kids than we think. And they love Christmas as much as the four year old sitting on the floor next to them. They are puppies after all and would love to tear anything in to pieces if given the chance.

Kongs are always a great gift for Staffordshire bull terriers, as they are such an intelligent dog. It keeps our Staffy pups busy.It stimulates your Staffy puppy’s mind by trying to work out how to get that treat out of the tiny little hole.

You can reuse the Kong over and over again. As a precaution make sure you give it a wash between uses.

Squeaky toys are also a great idea. Staffys seem to love them. You can often find them in Stocking packs at your local supermarket. Be careful to take them off your puppy after a while as they are not always the best quality and are easly destroyed. Though usually they will last Christmas day at least!

And, of course, bones and treats are always a huge hit with any dog. Have a look at the latest dentasticks. These also help with keeping your dogs teeth in good condition. You can get them in most supermarkets. The unbranded supermarket version beginning with T…. in the UK! is actually Flos favourite.

Happy Staffy Christmas Shopping,
